Associate Business Development Manager
SUMMARY
Nectar Business operates as a self contained unit within LMG, with a separate P&L. The team develops and signs up new clients, manages relationships with Business Sponsors, analyses sales data to produce insight for Sponsors, and develops proprietary marketing campaigns.
TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
ROLE
The Business Development function is targeted with growing Nectar Business revenues by:
- Signing new points issuing Sponsors. With an excellent track record for signing up some of the most recognised SME B2B brands in the UK, LMG has the ambition to drive growth through the addition of a range of Sponsors in key sectors
- Developing other new business initiatives. With a strong brand and successful existing ventures there is considerable scope for identifying new opportunities, developing business cases and implementing new business extensions
The business development process typically involves:
- Opportunity identification and sector analysis to determine overall attractiveness and market potential and competitive intensity of the category. This is followed up by detailed due diligence on potential sponsor companies
- Initial approach to senior management (often the marketing director) at potential sponsor companies
- Introductory meetings presenting the concept and exploring the strategic fit with the potential sponsor
- Data gathering and economic modelling to quantify the potential benefit of, and investment in, becoming a sponsor
- Complex negotiation to agree key commercial terms to form basis of a Heads of Terms Agreement
- Management of the legal process to final contract
POSITION
The Associate Business Development Manager's role is to work with the Head of Nectar Business to scope and develop new initiatives and sign new sponsors. They will gain exposure to every stage of the process (in particular the data gathering and modelling stage) and need to build strong relationships with management at the potential new sponsor. Within 1-2 years, the individual will be managing different stages of the process independently. The role will therefore suit an individual with a strong grounding in business, particularly strategy and analysis, but with a desire to extend their skill set to include experience in:
- Selling
- Negotiation
- Contract process
- Senior management exposure
- Working in an entrepreneurial, high energy, high profile company with strong emphasis on Professional Development
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong academic background (2:1 or above from top-tier university)
- 2+ years work experience in a Strategic Consultancy or commercial-focussed role
- Familiarity with building financial models (e.g. ROI, forecast models) and structuring and writing presentations
- Confidence and desire to present work to Director-level internal and external audiences
- Hunger to develop commercial skill set
- Strong analytical and communication skills
