Oracle Developer/DBA
SUMMARY
Loyalty Management Group (LMG) uses a number of critical Oracle databases to facilitate the program. The stability, scalability, security and performance of these databases is central to the commercial success of the business.
Key production Oracle databases include an OLTP database, Data Warehouse database, Operational Campaign database, an Oracle E-Business Suite environment and associated disaster recovery systems as well as numerous test and development systems.
The program continues to evolve at a rapid pace and LMG needs an experienced Oracle Developer/DBA with extensive Oracle Development experience and general operational Oracle DBA experience to work primarily on the Data Warehouse and Operational Campaign databases.
The Developer/DBA will be responsible for using their expertise and a variety of tools to aid in the collection, cleaning and analysis of data. They will also act as a second line support to the LMG helpdesk in relation to database issues.
TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
The tasks undertaken by the Developer/DBA will be quite varied, but will focus on ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading) activities, Oracle system integration, developing extracts and reports, ad-hoc data analysis, data cleansing and troubleshooting.
The Oracle Developer/DBA will have ownership or key involvement with the following activities:
- To assist in the creation of database system design and development; incorporating ETL processing and Data Mart design based on requirements specifications.
- To assist in the development of program specifications based on database system design documentation and requirements specifications.
- To assist in estimation of Data Warehouse design and development effort based on requirements, design documentation and program specifications.
- To develop efficient, robust code to LMG standards based on Data Warehouse design documentation and program specifications adhering to agreed timelines
- To develop, plan, document and execute appropriate unit testing for developed programs and code
- To produce detailed technical documentation associated with the database design and development
- Configuration and Tuning of the databases at an instance, database, schema and code level
- Form part of a 24x7 Rota for out of hours incident and problem investigation and resolution
- Definition and ongoing revision of monitoring and alerting for components
- Definition and ongoing revision of backup, restore and recovery implementation
- Definition and ongoing revision and management of Oracle security and profile options
- To review and improve standards and procedures and provide best practice expertise for the data and its supporting environment.
- Analysis and management of patches and upgrades to the databases.
- To provide knowledge handover and training to other members of the LMG, in particular the DBA Team.
REQUIREMENTS
Successful candidates will have more than four years experience working on Oracle data warehouses and requisite toolsets used for ETL and reporting activities. Extensive knowledge of Oracle Sql, PL/SQL, tuning and optimisation on Unix are necessary.
Specific skills and experience will include:
Required
- Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
- Excellent Oracle development skills using Oracle SQL and PL/SQL mainly on 10g.
- Performance tuning and optimizing Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
- Experience of working with databases containing over 1 billion recordsExperience of Oracle optimizer (SQL hints, parallelism, configuration parameters etc.)
- Strong understanding of database structures including keys, indexes, views, security models, etc.
- Understanding of SQL testing and rollback procedures
- High-level of verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Desirable
- Experience working within marketing and/or retail sectors.
- Performance tuning and optimisation of Oracle data warehouses.
- Data Warehousing architecture on VLDB running on a unix platform.
- Unica Affinium experience.
- Ability to work with simple scripting languages such as Unix shell scripts or Perl
- Oracle OCP Certification on either 9i or 10g
- Proven ability to work in a customer service oriented organization
- ITIL Foundation certificate
- Experience of PRINCE2 methodologies
